Enjoy A Stay At Santa Monica’s Best Beach Hotels
Between the bustling pier, the breathtaking sunsets, the Third Street Promenade and the beautiful Palisades Park, Santa Monica is definitely one of Southern California’s most charming beach communities. The entire 8.3 mile stretch is very walkable, but of course, the closer to the ocean you are the better. Santa Monica is full of beautiful beach hotels, and where you stay will depend on the kind of experience you’re looking for.
The Georgian
The Georgian Hotel is full of vintage charm, and it’s one of the older hotels on the strip. It was built in 1933, and back then it was a place for old Hollywood celebrities like Clark Gable, Rita Franklin and Charlie Chaplin to escape the limelight and lay low (and possibly enjoy some illegal booze). If you’re looking for an “old Hollywood” type of experience, this art deco masterpiece is for you.

Shutters on the Beach
Shutters on the Beach is not exactly budget-friendly, but it offers a truly luxurious experience. Nothing will stand between you and the sand—this hotel is right on the beach. Between the three onsite restaurants and bars (one of which offers wine tasting), the fitness center and the tranquil One Spa, you won’t have to leave the property at all during your visit. If you’re willing to splurge, you’ll be pampered from your arrival to your departure.

Hotel Casa del Mar
Also worth a mention is the sister property of Shutters on the Beach, the neighboring Hotel Casa del Mar. Their ocean views are equally as impressive, and their two onsite dining options are both delicious and have beautiful beach views. The hotel is decked out in neutrals and pastels, give it a calming atmosphere. But what really sets this property apart from all the others is the pristine pool, which sits right next to the beach and is surrounded by lounge chairs.

Ocean View Hotel
The Ocean View Hotel is conveniently located on Ocean Avenue across from Santa Monica State Beach within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the Santa Monica Pier. Many of its rooms have ocean views, and the hotel has a great reputation for having a friendly staff. Stay at this hotel if you’re looking for a nice beach hotel with basic amenities (free WiFi and valet parking) but you don’t need the “bells and whistles” of a luxury hotel.

Bayside Hotel
Finding an affordable oceanfront hotel in Santa Monica is admittedly unlikely. But the Bayside Hotel might be your best bet, offering clean, comfortable rooms for a more reasonable price than most other hotels in the area. This is an old building, but it has been renovated, and the vintage vibe is actually pretty charming.
