About Half Moon Bay

Some of the world’s best surfers routinely flock to Half Moon Bay for its huge, and sometimes dangerous, waves. Mavericks Surf Event draws in the risk takers, and the crowds, nearly each winter. Another prime surfing spot, Martin’s Beach is currently embroiled in lawsuits. The owners of adjacent property to the beach recently blocked off the beach’s only access road, and the public is fighting to open it back up again. For alternate plans, head to the five beaches of Half Moon Bay State Beach. Here you’ll find places to hike, camp or horseback ride.
