About Button Shell Beach at Fox Landing in Avalon, California
Button Shell Beach is an east-facing beach on Catalina Island that gets protection from Long Point on the north side. The cove is called Fox Landing and a youth camp serving kids from California’s public and private schools is based here called Fox Camp.
The current owners, Guided Discoveries, offer many different activities and programs for kids through the non-profit organization Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) including rock climbing, hiking, snorkeling, sea kayaking, marine investigation/biology, and more. Visit their website to learn more about staying at CIMI Fox Landing on Button Shell Beach.
Button Shell Beach may be private, but the general public can boat in to the beach for the day and even camp overnight at a campground on the other side of Long Point. Learn about boating and kayaking to beaches like Long Point Beach.
Catalina Express operates ferry boats daily to Catalina Island from the mainland in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Dana Point. There is no road from Avalon to Fox Landing so kids and camp staff are ferried there by boat.
It doesn’t get any better than this clear water. Super scuba diving.
