About Whites Landing on Catalina Island in Avalon, California

Whites Landing Beach is a private beach at White Cove north of the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. Two yacht clubs share the harbor with an environmental education non-profit organization called Mountain & Sea Adventures (MSA) that operates a youth camp at Whites Landing Beach.

San Diego Yacht Club calls their Whites Landing outstation “Buffalo Beach.” The reason for this name comes from the bison that roam the grassy grounds at the camp.

Kids and families pack this spot in the summer months with many water and land-based activities to enjoy.

This is the island’s widest sandy beach so it’s too bad that the general public doesn’t have access, but Catalina Island Conservancy is dedicated to using their lands for educational purposes.

The Catalina Express operates ferries daily to Avalon on Catalina Island from the mainland in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Dana Point.
