About Empire Landing on Catalina Island in Avalon, California

Empire Landing is a north-facing private beach east of Two Harbors on Catalina Island. It has around ten private homes directly behind the beach and a meandering dirt road access downhill from the island’s airport.

Unfortunately the beach at Empire Landing is closed to the public. Even the roads there are off-limits to walking and biking.

Just east of Empire Landing Beach there is a smaller cove known as Rippers Cove which is the actual Empire Landing. Boats are allowed to anchor at Empire Landing, but the moorings are private.

West of Empire Landing there is an old abandoned rock quarry known as the Empire Quarry that has a desirable scuba diving site not far from shore.

The Catalina Express Ferry operates boats daily to Two Harbors and Avalon from the mainland in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Dana Point.

I cycled the area in 2008 , it is quite a little enclave of sorts, very remote and private! Very thought provoking! I passed by on a 40 mile bike trip from Avalon to the airport to shark harbor to the buffalo corral then back to Avalon !!!
