About Marshall Beach in Inverness, California

Marshall Beach is on Tomales Bay in the northern part of Point Reyes National Seashore. Access to Marshall Beach is either by water or by trail. Visitors frequently boat-in to this beach because there is an outhouse toilet and space for camping.

Hikers must drive a dirt road to the parking area north of Tomales Bay State Park and then hike over a mile on a trail to the beach. It is the only beach you can hike to on the Tomales Bay side of the national seashore. Interestingly, if you hike (or bike or ride a horse) to the beach, then you can’t camp — camping is only for boat-in visitors.

Note that dogs are allowed on the beach, but not on the trail. Marshall Beach is popular with kayaking tours so you might see a group pulling up on the shore. If you have a boat, it can be launched at Nick’s Cove public boat launch. They can also be rented at Lawson’s Landing nearby. Kayaks can be rented in Inverness or Marshall from Blue Waters Kayaking.

To reach the trailhead parking area, take Sir Francis Drake Blvd from Inverness, then go right on Pierce Point Road, then go right again on Marshall Beach Road and drive to the very end.
