About Refugio State Beach in Goleta, California

Refugio State Beach is a state park located about twenty miles from Santa Barbara. It has a large campground near the ocean that allows for longer stays, but has a day-use parking area too. There is a lot to do here no matter how long your visit is. The south-facing sandy beach is in a cove that is backed by palm trees and lifeguards are on patrol seasonally. Kayaking tours are offered by the lifeguards in the summer months. At low tide there are tide pools to explore at both ends of the cove. Starting at the park entrance there is a three mile-long paved bike trail that connects Refugio State Beach to El Capitan State Beach to the east. If you want to go hiking, there are long inland trails at El Capitan State Beach nearby.

To get to Refugio State Beach, drive west from the Santa Barbara area on the 101 and look for the signs to the park at Exit 120 for Refugio Road.

Amazing beach but recent storms have changed how the waterfront looks. Several of the old palms have fallen into the ocean and others were cut down to avoid them falling on beachgoers.
