About Mill Creek Picnic Area Beach in Big Sur, California

Mill Creek Picnic Area is a Los Padres National Forest day-use area along the southern Big Sur coastline.

Next to the parking lot there is a small grassy area with a couple picnic tables and barbeques. Below the parking and picnic areas the beach is made up of large boulders. A cove with a small sandy beach is north of here, but at high tide and during large surf it might not be accessible. It’s possible to explore south around the creek mouth too.

The Mill Creek Picnic Area entrance is just south of the Highway 1 intersection with Nacimiento-Fergusson Road one of Central California’s coastal backroads.

If you want to camp Kirk Creek Campground is on the bluff a half mile north of the entrance to Mill Creek. Hotel accommodations are available at Gorda Springs and Lucia. For a wide sandy beach drive a few miles south of Mill Creek to Sand Dollar Beach.

We stopped here and had lunch as we traveled down the coast. It was a beautiful day and the waves were crashing on the rocks. The tide was too high to explore the beach but it was a relaxing pit stop.
