St. Orres Creek Beach is in a small cove just north of Gualala. The Redwood Coast Land Conservancy was granted an easement from local property owners to provide access down into the cove, but the final 15 foot drop proved unstable. A steep locals trail with steps still remains, but it has some exposure and is signed to enter “at your own risk.” A huge seastack is in the surf and rocky cliffs hang over the sand. Winter storms pile up drift logs at the back of the beach where Saint Orres Creek flows into the cove. It’s a photogenic spot to say the least and worth the effort to find. If you want to access St. Orres Beach, park in a dirt lot on Highway 1 next to address 36501 and carefully cross the street. Then walk south along a brick wall to the hidden trailhead. St. Orres Inn and Restaurant is across the highway from the cove. The neighboring beach to the south, Cooks Beach, has a safer public beach access and can whet your beach appetite if spending time in Gualala.
