About Little Harbor on Catalina Island in Avalon, California

Little Harbor is the site of a great sandy beach and one of the best campgrounds on Santa Catalina Island. A bus called the Safari Bus takes campers to Little Harbor from the ferry dock in either Two Harbors or Avalon, however it’s closer to Two Harbors where backpackers often walk the seven miles to camp via roads and trails. The Trans Catalina Trail backpacking route passes by Little Harbor CG which is about the mid-point of the route.

The beach in Little Harbor is sandy and the cove is incredibly scenic. Shark Harbor is adjacent to the south and the two beaches are separated by a rock known as the “Whale Tail.” Because of the shape and orientation, this cove offers sailboats and yachts safe anchorage so you might see boats in the harbor.

This campground offers potable water which makes staying longer much easier. Reservations are required for Little Harbor Campground so check the website for more information.

Catalina Express has ferries that depart daily to Catalina Island from the mainland in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Dana Point.
